Begin Your Boxing Journey with Rox Boxing

When we talk about Boxing, we realize that boxing is a highly demanding but very rewarding sport. Nothing feels better than entering the ring and holding yourself against a skilled opponent.  We, Rox Boxing Gym would like to share some tips on how to begin your boxing journey.

1. Workout

Boxing is a mentally and physically demanding sport, which implies that you need to be fighting fit.  Once you start, it is very important to start strength training and primarily focus on the whole body workout. The whole body is engaged during a boxing match, so one needs to have that strength and stamina from toe to head. Your workout sessions must include push-ups, pull-ups, curls, climbers, and squats.

When you are not working on your strength training, you want to work on building up your stamina. This will help you box longer. Running and jogging are both excellent ways to work on endurance and stamina. Our outdoor training sessions at Rox Boxing Gym help you to vary your workouts to avoid overworking specific parts of your body. We recommend you alternate between one day of strength training and one day of stamina work.

2. Diet

It is very important to eat only the most nutritious food in your body for the sole purpose of fueling yourself. Eat a well-balanced diet of lean meat, carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables, and lots and lots of water. You need to stay hydrated at all times, but especially during training and boxing matches.

3. Sleep Well

You know you should exercise daily and eat a healthy and balanced diet, but there’s one more piece to the puzzle. You need to get adequate rest. This will enable you to build up your body, make repairs, and perform at maximum capacity throughout your boxing match. Sleep at least 7 hours per night, although you want to aim for 9.

4. Take the Plunge and Join a Boxing Club

Don’t be scared.  Boxing is different than what you’ve seen on TV and film. It’s not just for young, working-class men with thick accents; it’s one of the most inclusive sports around. Nowadays, boxers come from all ages and social backgrounds. Women are always welcome and there are classes and competitions for people with physical disabilities.  Also, it’s totally normal if you don’t want to compete in actual fights. In fact, most people who participate in boxing have little to no intention of boxing competitively.
